Passionate about nature and the night sky

My Journey with the Northern Lights

The Northern Lights have always held a special place in my heart. Since 2008, I’ve had the privilege of leading countless expeditions, guiding people from around the world to witness this incredible phenomenon. The Arctic, with its wild and unpredictable weather, presents challenges that make every expedition unique. Yet, these challenges are part of the adventure, teaching us the importance of working in harmony with “Mother Nature.” Despite the unpredictability of Arctic weather, my team and I have maintained a 95% success rate in finding and capturing the elusive Aurora.

Exploring the Universe Beyond the Aurora

However, my passion for the night sky extends far beyond the Aurora. Ever since I first laid eyes on this mesmerising display, I’ve been captivated by the entire cosmos. There’s an entire universe out there just waiting to be captured—from the ethereal beauty of deep sky objects and the breathtaking spectacle of meteor showers, to the awe-inspiring power of lightning storms and the rare phenomena of solar and lunar eclipses. Each new discovery reignites my curiosity and drives me to push the boundaries of what’s possible in astrophotography, deep sky imaging, and capturing the wild weather and astronomical events that light up the night.

Sharing My Passion with the World

My work has taken me to some extraordinary places and brought me into contact with wonderful people. I’ve had the honour of being featured in documentaries such as Die Sonne (Spiegel TV), Le Soleil : L’astre des astres (ARTE TV), The Sun (Curiosity Stream), and Little Stargazing (BBC TV), and my photographs have appeared in publications such as Sky & Telescope MagazineAsian PhotographyChina LifeThe Guardian, American Express Essentials, Daily Mail, BBC News magazine and Wanderlust Magazine—to name but a few. These opportunities have allowed me to reach a broader audience, but what truly excites me is the chance to connect with people who share my love for the night sky in all its forms.

When I worked with BBC producer Janine Finlay on Little Stargazing, I wasn’t just sharing facts about the Northern Lights—I was inviting viewers to feel the awe and wonder that I experience every time I look up. It’s this same sense of wonder that I bring to every workshop I host, whether it’s capturing the Aurora in the frozen north, diving into the depths of the cosmos in a deep sky imaging session, photographing the electrifying spectacle of a lightning storm, or marvelling at the streaks of meteors during the Perseid shower.

Why I Host Expeditions and Workshops

I started hosting expeditions and workshops because I wanted to do more than just capture beautiful images—I wanted to help others experience the thrill of discovery that comes with photographing the night sky and its wild weather. Whether your passion lies with the Northern Lights, the intricate details of deep sky objects, the fleeting beauty of a meteor shower, the grandeur of a solar eclipse, or the mystique of a lunar eclipse, my workshops are designed to immerse you in the experience.

These sessions are about more than just technical lessons—they’re about feeling the cold air on your face, hearing the crunch of snow underfoot, or the stillness of a warm summer night as we point our lenses towards the heavens. They’re about the shared excitement when the sky reveals something extraordinary, and the sense of accomplishment when you capture it just right.

What to Expect When You Join Me

When you join one of my workshops, you’re not just signing up to learn—you’re signing up to share in an adventure. We’ll explore some of the most stunning natural settings, where the night sky is our canvas, and the wonders of the cosmos and the raw power of nature are our subjects. I’ll be there every step of the way to guide you, share my knowledge, and hopefully, inspire a deeper connection to the universe.

It’s not just about getting the perfect shot—though we’ll certainly aim for that—it’s about the journey, the memories we’ll create, and the friendships we’ll forge along the way. Whether we’re chasing the Aurora in the Arctic, capturing the hidden beauty of deep sky objects, photographing lightning as it splits the night sky, or witnessing the drama of a meteor shower, solar eclipse, or lunar eclipse, I want this to be an experience that stays with you long after the workshop ends.

A Personal Invitation

If the idea of exploring the night sky excites you—whether it’s through the Northern Lights, deep sky imaging, mastering low-light photography, capturing the thrill of wild weather at night, or experiencing the awe of meteor showers and eclipses—I’d love for you to join me. Let’s embark on this adventure together and create something truly special. The night sky and its ever-changing moods have so much to offer, and I can’t wait to share it with you.
