Step into a world of enchantment and wonder with The Great Aurora Hunt. In Winter 2025, I will lead two extraordinary journeys into the heart of Swedish Lapland, venturing deep into the untamed wilderness of Norrbotten, where ancient magic weaves through earth and sky.
Norrbotten in winter is a realm unto itself. Towering snow-covered trees, called tykke, stand like frozen sentinels, sculpted by the Arctic wind. Their icy branches, laden with snow, appear almost alive, guarding the secrets of a vast, untouched landscape. Beneath the velvet-black skies, nature sets the stage for its most elusive and awe-inspiring performance: the Northern Lights.
As darkness falls, and if the Solar winds and weather bless us with clear skies, the heavens will come alive. Ribbons of green, violet, and crimson will swirl and shimmer, painting the night with colours so brilliant they scarcely seem real. This is the magic of Swedish Lapland—a place where the Northern Lights aren’t just seen, but experienced in a way that leaves an indelible mark on your soul.
One question we often get is whether you need to be a photographer to join this adventure. The simple answer is no, absolutely not. While there’s a strong photographic element, it’s just as much about the adventure and the thrill of the chase. You don’t have to worry if you’re not bringing a camera—Andy and his team will be taking images throughout the expedition and will happily capture a photograph of you, your family, or your friends beneath the Northern Lights. This will be supplied to you free of charge at the end of the journey, so even if you’re not focused on photography, you’ll have a keepsake of this unforgettable experience.
During the day, we’ll explore Lapland’s most storied locations. We’ll visit Gammelstad Church Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site steeped in history, where picturesque wooden cottages cluster around a medieval stone church. Wandering through its snow-dusted streets feels like stepping into a fairytale, where every corner whispers tales of centuries past.
We’ll also journey to Cape Wild, a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. Here, you’ll meet some of Lapland’s most iconic creatures, including reindeer and moose (elk). The magic of this experience lies not just in seeing these animals up close, but in feeling a deep connection to the wilderness around you. The opportunity to interact with these gentle giants in their natural habitat will leave a lasting impression.
In the evenings, under the guidance of professional photographer Andy Keen, you’ll receive personalised photography tuition. Whether you’re a seasoned photographer or a complete novice, Andy will guide you in mastering low-light techniques, ensuring you capture the Northern Lights in all their splendour. But even if photography isn’t your focus, the Aurora Chases will offer a magical and thrilling adventure, as we travel into the wilderness in search of the dancing lights.
There’s also a chance we’ll encounter wildlife along the way—perhaps a moose wandering through the snow or a herd of reindeer crossing under the starry sky. And don’t worry about the cold—hot drinks will be provided to keep you warm and cosy during our chases.

The cost for each expedition is €1,995 per person. We recommend booking early due to small group sizes (6 guests).

How to Join the Expedition
The Great Aurora Hunt takes place in the stunning region of Luleå, Norrbotten, Sweden. Located just below the Arctic Circle, Luleå offers the perfect gateway to the vast wilderness of Swedish Lapland and is known for its breathtaking views of the Northern Lights.
Flights to Luleå
For your journey to Luleå, you’ll be flying into Luleå Airport (LLA), also known as Kallax Airport, which is well connected with Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN). There are several daily flights between Stockholm and Luleå operated by:
- Scandinavian Airlines
- Norwegian Airlines
To find the best flight options, I personally recommend using Google Flights, as it allows you to easily compare daily flight schedules and find the best deal for your travel needs.
Getting from Luleå Airport to Central Luleå
Taxi: A taxi from the airport to the centre of Luleå takes around 10-15 minutes and costs approximately 550 SEK each way. It’s a fast and convenient way to travel, especially if you have luggage. Recommended taxi services include:

Airport Bus: A more economical option is the airport shuttle bus, which regularly runs between Luleå Airport and the city centre. Accommodation
While guests are responsible for booking their own accommodation, I highly recommend two hotels located within a 5-minute walk from the town centre. Both provide excellent comfort and convenience:
- Arctic Comfort Hotel: This cosy hotel offers a serene environment with modern amenities, perfect for unwinding after a night spent Aurora chasing.
- Park Hotel Luleå: Known for its warm atmosphere and excellent service, this hotel serves as a wonderful base for your adventure in Swedish Lapland.
For flight and hotel bookings, please notify us once you’ve confirmed your travel arrangements and accommodation. We strongly recommend Arctic Comfort Hotel and Park Hotel Luleå for their proximity to the centre and excellent amenities.
Securing your place(s) on this trip
A 25% non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking. The final balance is due 90 days before the start of the workshop. I will write to you one week before the final payment is due and will send the final invoice, along with a suggested clothing and equipment list.
